Functional Analysis of Contrasting Conjunctions in Georgian

چکیده

There exist eight conjunctions in Georgian used to express semantic or pragmatic contrast, which constitute an implicational hierarchy: aramed > oγond > tumca > magram > k'i//k'idev > xolo > tu > da. The given string is organized in such a way that the skill of conjunctions to express contrasting bindings is decreasing from the left to the right. On the basis of functional-semantic analysis of the conjunctions we propose seven binary differential semantic/pragmatic features: +/–[Contrast], +/–[Opposition], +/–[Correction], +/–[Expectation], +/–[Wish], +/–[At least one], +/–[Strong underlining]. Certain combinations of the features express the main functions of the conjunctions which are relevant for formal representations of contrastive topics and/or focuses during the binding of some constituents or sentences.

Investigating the Use of Paratactic and Hypotactic Conjunctions among Iranian Pre-university Students

In an attempt to dispel the persisting fallacy that an individual’s grammar knowledge is indicative of the way they put this knowledge into practice, this study seeks to highlight the inconsistency which resides between one’s competence and performance in the domain of conjunctions. It aims to shed light on the discrepancy which lies between the knowledge and production of conjunctions. The res...

Data Envelopment Analysis, Genetic Algorithm, Hyperplane, Efficient Unit

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is actually to obtain the efficiency using inputs and outputs, which can determine efficient and inefficient units with the help of performance calculations such that the efficiency for efficient DMUs is one and less than one for inefficient DMUs [1]. In some cases, the ranking of the decision-making units are not important for decision-makers, and they are only ...

A Finite-State Model of Georgian Verbal Morphology

Georgian is a less commonly studied language with complex, non-concatenative verbal morphology. We present a computational model for generation and recognition of Georgian verb conjugations, relying on the analysis of Georgian verb structure as a word-level template. The model combines a set of finite-state transducers with a default inheritance mechanism.1

The Structure of Georgian Blogosphere and Implications For Information Diffusion∗

We present the first study of the Georgian blogosphere. The complete dataset on Georgian bloggers is collected and analyzed using Social Network Analysis tools. We identify the core-periphery structure present in the system. Results point to the fact that, after disregarding least important peripheral blogs that do not actively participate in the system, Georgian blogosphere is very compact. Th...
